So you thought Bill came up with a idea to make the bloated OS to run on a so said minimum requirement of "512 Megabyte RAM and at least 256 MB Graphics Card"...
No! I ran this beauty on a meager 256 MB RAM and a onboard graphics card (cough cough!). It works perfectly (obviously dropping out Aero, and stuff like that). My PC could actually handle it!
The Installation
Almost all by now know that Vista can be patched to run on 256MB RAM (by default the installation halts when you have less than 512). Okay so now i patch the vista distro and then start the installation, I go ahead with the defaults and install it on 20 GB partition. The install went fine and quick. Now for the first start
The First Boot
The boot time is just under a minute (truly speaking that is faster than XP for me). My first impression of vista was that this was not going to work under any cirumstances on my box... A few minutes of browsing around... I was thorougly impressed by the elegancy of the OS.... A few tweaks and after disabling some programs and services, I enjoyed some real grandeur.
My Migration
I installed Office 2007, VLC, and a some more must use programs. I installed Nero 7 (the vista compatible one) and tried to burn a DVD :) obviously both Nero and Vista did not like my box and the disc turned out to be corrupt.
All fine till now... But I needed to connect to the internet. So i head over to the Control Panel (after passing through 100s of warnings) and create a new PPPoE connection (after another 100 warnings). Fine but my line often gets dropped and i need a dialer (I hate the inbuilt ones... keeps interupting you), I install my old dialer software, but that gets kicked out. Crap
Turn on Network discovery and you have the whole of my network (all of workgroups and domains) is listed here! Man this is hacker's delight

Problems
My discs dont get burnt, XP shares are complex to access (Vista locked out two of my precious folders!!!), Half my programs don't work, Even it they work, I have to battle against half a million warnings, and worse of it all Defender screws me totally.
Summary
What the recommendations say is true, this chick runs on 256 but sucks high time. So tomorrow first i'm going to chuck this and free up the partiton for my dear dear XP (and probably for some good distro of linux)
For me this is what you should do for installing vista:

Various lite versions of vista [stripped down using vlite] are available to download

7I would recommend ubuntu for a linux distro, Its what I hope to setup my desktop on when I get time off. Ubuntu with xp virtual box seamless mode. Another side of the cube Mac X OS ha
I wouldn’t recommend unless you have a seriously powerful system. Running 3 OS at once can be bit heavy on the cpu and ram ha ha lol.
