Adobe Reader 8 has been updated to Adobe Reader 8.1, Acrobat Reader, formerly known as Acrobat Reader, is free and required to view and print Adobe PDF (Portable Document Format) files, it is popularly used as a way to distribute information with a fixed layout similar to a paper publication.

You can always download latest version of Adobe Reader 8.1 from Adobe website. However, the setup file that you downloaded is actually a plugin (Firefox addon, in case of Firefox) which has a small download size. The Adobe Download Manager will handle the further downloading of Adobe Reader and can be paused and resumed.

This tiny addon is fine for those who stay, live and survive online, but it cannot be used if you want to install it offline, or just for backup purposes. So it’s best to download the full installer instead, which can be used to setup and install Acrobat Reader 8.1 even when you’re not connected to Internet.
