The CD is a Live cum Installer CD so you can use Ubuntu without installing, and install if you wish from the same CD only.
• Do NOT install ubuntu if you do not already have an expertise in installing Operating Systems and using partitioning softwares.
• Ubuntu is an Operating System, it is not software to be used by newbie.
• Do NOT install ubuntu without reading the instructions or simply pop in the CD and follow the steps to install Ubuntu, you are risking you data to be IRRECOVRABLY LOST.
• You may safely use the CD when you are in Windows environment to install Firefox, GAIM, GIMP etc.
• You may boot from the CD and use the Linux environment safely (provided you do not install it).
• To install please follow the steps:
1. Check the System Requirements (Internet is highly recommended)
2. Partition your hard drive to add the following partitions

Partition   Type   Size
Linux Root   Linux Ext3   2.5 x Media Size (e.g. for CD -  2 GB)
Linux Swap   Linux Swap   2.5 x RAM Size (e.g. For 256 MB RAM – 650 MB Swap)

3. Boot from the disc and then double click on the Install icon in the ubuntu environment.
4. This step is very important. Choose ‘Edit the partition table manually’ in the ‘Hard Drive Partitioning’ step.
5. Mount the linux swap partition as /swap and choose to format with linux swap.
6. Mount the root partition as / and choose to format with linux ext3
7. Click Next. Soon Ubuntu will be installed.
